Alberta Innovates Associates Program Updates

Alberta Innovates relaunched their r&D Associates and Commercialization Associates program as of this morning (Aug 29, 2022).

This is what is new.

1. r&D Associates Program

What's new?

• Eligible funding increase (from $67,500 to $105,000)

• Only one funding level (previously had two levels of funding)

• Eligible projects must be between TRL 3 and TRL 9

• Project is for one-year of funding with potential for a second year of funding with the same associate

Qualified applicants may apply to receive non-dilutive funding to help cover salary costs over a one-year term.

Applicants must commit a minimum 25% cash contribution of the total annual base salary.

This program helps Alberta SMEs to:

• Accelerate and progress the development of new technology and innovative solutions

• Attract and retain technical expertise

• De-risk the development and scaling of innovative products

2. Industry Commercialization Associates Program

What's new?

• Eligible funding increase (from $105,000 to $120,000)

• Project is for one-year of funding with potential for a second year of funding with the same associate

• New program name (used to be called simply Commercialization Associates)

Qualified applicants may apply to receive non-dilutive funding to help cover the salary for employees hired to promote the commercialization of their business.

Applicants must commit a minimum 25% cash contribution of the total annual salary.

This program helps Alberta SMEs to:

• Accelerate and progress the commercialization of new technology and innovative products

• Attract and retain business talent with key expertise needed for start-up and scaling SMEs in Alberta

• Provide access to financial resources to de-risk the commercialization of new tech or innovation-based products

• Promote revenue and export growth

• Promote SME investment positioning
